Veteran Sports Journalist Tim Sullivan

In this week’s episode, we sit down with veteran sports journalist Tim Sullivan to discuss transparency issues arising from his attempts to obtain documents from the University of Louisville relating to the NCAA’s infractions and enforcement case following the 2017 basketball-related “scandal.” The Louisville case was one of six the NCAA adjudicated through its Independent Accountability Resolution Process designed for “high stakes” infractions and enforcement cases. At the time, Mr. Sullivan wrote for the Louisville Courier-Journal. After Louisville denied his public records requests, the Courier-Journal sued under Kentucky public records laws. Mr. Sullivan walks us through his initial public records requests, the lawsuit, and transparency themes relevant to his battle with Louisville. Mr. Sullivan has been a sportswriter and columnist for over 45 years in Cincinnati, San Diego, and Louisville. He left the Courier Journal in 2023 and now works as a freelance contributor for Leo Weekly in Louisville. Mr. Sullivan is a graduate of the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism.
